Xenoperdix udzungwensis

Identification

29cm. Boldly barred, brown, rufous face, grey underparts, olive-brown crown and upperparts, red bill, brown iris and yellow legs. Sexes are similar.

Discovered in 1991.

Distribution

Udzungwa and Rubeho Mountains in Tanzania.

Taxonomy

2 taxa recognised.

X. u. undzungwensis in Undzungwa Mts.

X. u. obscurata in Rubeho Mts.

The two taxa are sometimes split by some authorities to Udzungwa and Rubeho Forest Partridge.

Habitat

Montane forests.

Behaviour

The diet includes beetles, ants and seeds.
