Trogon collaris

Identification

25cm. Male - green back, head and breast, white line separates breast from red underparts, white, black barred undertail, black wings vermiculated with white. Female - brown back, head and breast, paler red underparts.

Distribution

Northern Colombia, northern Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago.

Taxonomy

There are 9 subspecies.

Habitat

Tropical forests.

Behaviour

It nests in a hole in a termite nest or tree; 2 white eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects and fruit.

Vocalisation

Call: caow, caow, caow.
