Grey brown above, grey crown, dark blue line across the wing coverts and a white band on the closed wing, wing pale grey with white panel then black primaries.  White chin, throat, belly and undertail.  Grey eye ring and iris.

Identification

Grey brown above, grey crown, dark blue line across the wing coverts and a white band on the closed wing, wing pale grey with white panel then black primaries. White chin, throat, belly and undertail. Grey eye ring and iris.

Juvenile: Considerably duller with rather more buff hue overall. The upperparts are generally fringed buff and the wing-coverts and breast are reddish-buff or buff at the center.

Distribution

North-east Brazil to central Argentina and westwards to the Andes and central Chile.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Savanna, gardens and agricultural areas.

Behaviour

It feeds on seeds.
