Identification
10–11·5 cm
- Dark-tipped red bill
- Blackish crown
Distribution
Endemic to Mexico.
Taxonomy
This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 3 subspecies.
Green-fronted Hummingbird is sometimes placed in genus Agyrtria.
Subspecies
- R. v. viridifrons:
- Southern Mexico (eastern Guerrero to western Oaxaca)
- R. v. wagneri:
- Southern Mexico (central and south Oaxaca)
- R. v. villadai:
- Southern Mexico (eastern Oaxaca and Chiapas) and west central Guatemala (Huehuetenango)
Habitat
Dry or semi-dry pine-oak forests and scrub .
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of nectar and insects.
