Dark-throated Thrush occur in two subspecies, ''Turdus ruficollis ruficollis'' which is also known as Red-throated Thrush, and ''Turdus ruficollis atrogularis'' which is known as Black-throated Thrush. These two forms are considered different species by some authorities (Howard and Moore), but not others (Clements up to 6th edition).
