Identification
23–25 cm (9-9¾ in)
- Blue crown
- Orange forehead
- Bare yellow eye-ring

Young birds are similar to adults, but with much less orange on the forehead.

Found on the Pacific slope of Mexico and Central America from Sinaloa to northwest Costa Rica.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Aratinga.
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized1:
- E. c. clarae:
- West Mexico (Sinaloa to Colima, Durango and Michoacán)
- E. c. eburnirostrum:
- South West Mexico (eastern Michoacán to Guerrero and Oaxaca)
- E. c. canicularis:
- Arid tropical western Mexico (Chiapas) to western Costa Rica
Habitat
Deciduous woodland, forest edges, swamp forests, savannas and thorn scrub.
Behaviour
Breeding
They use a cavity in a termite nest or other natural cavities for their nests. The clutch consists of 3-5 white eggs.
Diet
The diet consists of seeds, flowers and fruits including figs.
