Taxonomy

Recent phylogenetic analysis suggest that this species was closely related to the Red-crested Pochard and may have belonged to the same genus Netta.

Habitat

Lowland marshes and pools in tall-grass jungle.

Behaviour

The nest is built amongst grass.

Diet includes aquatic plants.
