The picturesque Gudavi Lake with trees all along its banks is a beautiful sight in itself. It is a small seasonal lake and is filled with water mostly in the rainy season. Various avian species migrate from across the globe in different seasons for breeding. The best time to visit the sanctuary is Jun-Oct.

Jog falls on river Sharavati, the highest water falls of Asia with four cascades, is located at a distance of 53.5 km from the sanctury. Best time to visit the falls is July to September during monsoons.

A platform is built for bird watchers to have a closer look at the birds. There are four in number, 2 to 3 storied watch towers to give view of sanctuary from different vantage points.
  
 
By Air: The nearest airport to Shimoga is at Hubli which is at a distance of 165 Km. Other airports accessible from Shimoga are Mangalore (200 Km) and Bangalore (274 Kms). In near future, an airport at Sogane is expected to open. It is around 6 Km from Shimoga. The sanctuary is also accessible by road from Hubli((125 km).
