  • Greyish-olive head with rudimentary pale eyering consisting of very short scaly feathers
  • Yellowish-green upperparts, remiges and rectrices browner with green edges
  • Rufous-orange throat and upper chest
  • Dark greyish-olive rest of underparts
  • Yellowish-brown undertail-coverts
  • Blackish bill

Sexes similar but males bigger than females. Juveniles undescribed.

Distribution

Endemic to Buru, Indonesia.
An uncommon and local restricted-range species. Endangered and treated by habitat loss.

Taxonomy

Relationships were uncertain for a long time but the consensus now is that it is an aberrant member of Motacillidae and is best placed in the genus Anthus[1][3].

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Moist montane forests at 820 to 1750m, mainly above 1450 m.

Behaviour

Diet

Not much known, seems to feed on invertebrates taken from bark and lichen.
Forages in mixed-species flocks, climbing up and down trunks like a nuthatch.
