Identification

Male

  • Crimson cap
  • Black facial mask
  • Pale greyish-white bill
  • White marks on the back and tertials
  • Black band across white underparts
  • Lower belly becoming yellowish
  • Red undertail coverts
  • Cinnamon throat

Female - darker throat and all-black crown.

Distribution

South America: found in western Amazonian Brazil south to eastern Bolivia and west-central Mato Grosso.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes fruits. Often found feeding in mixed flocks.
