Identification

13·5–15 cm (5½-6 in)

  • Black forehead, crown and nape
  • Yellowish-brown line between nostril and lores
  • White lores
  • Broad white eye-ring

Distribution

West Africa: found on the islands of Sao Tome and Principe in the Gulf of Guinea.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Speirops.

Habitat

Humid primary and secondary forests. Prefers to keep to shady understorey.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of berries and small fruit. Also probably nectar and insects, including caterpillars.
