Black upperparts with metallic blue sheen to head, hind neck, lower back, rump and uppertail-coverts
White underparts
Short head crest
White wing patches
Bare red skin beneath eye
Pink feet
Large orange caruncles

This is a monotypic species^[1].
Sometimes placed in genus Phalacrocorax.

Shores, rocky headlands, cliffs and islands.

It nests in colonies. The eggs are chalky blue.

The diet includes small fish.
