North-west Africa and from Turkey to north-west India.

- from Turkey to the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan and north-west India
The species is sometimes split into African Crimson-winged Finch (alienus) and Asian Crimson-winged Finch (sanguineus)
Habitat
Rocky mountain slopes over 2000 m. Winters in farmland.
Behaviour
Breeding
It nests in the crevices of rocks. The 4-5 lightly speckled blue eggs are incubated by the female alone.
Diet
The diet includes seeds.
