Geotrygon chrysia

Identification

27-31 cm in length. Dark rust back and wings. Iridescent crown, nape and back of its neck. The mantle, back, rump and inner wing coverts show purplish red iridescence. White facial stripe.

Distribution

Bahama Islands, Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Habitat

Semi-arid woodland and scrub forest.

Behaviour

It lays 2 buff coloured eggs on a flimsy platform built on a shrub. Some nests are built on the ground.

Diet includes seeds, berries, fallen fruit, and snails.
