Identification
19-20 cm
Mostly rufous with a stronger chestnut on the crown and somewhat darker on parts of the back. Bill and legs are greyish and iris is orange-yellow.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

There are 2 recognized subspecies[1]:

- A. r. rufipileatus:
- Brazil south of the Amazon (Rio Purús to northern Maranhão)
Habitat
Seems more common in seasonally flooded forest (varzea) than in other moist lowland forests.
