Identification
9–10 cm
The eye-wattle is green and smaller in the female than the male. Dark grey-green upperparts; underparts yellow with varying chestnut markings.
Distribution
Tropical Africa: Discontinuous distribution from Sierra Leone to western Kenya, western Tanzania and Angola.
Taxonomy
This species is placed in the genus Dyaphorophyia by some authorities.[2]
Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized:[1]
- P.c. concreta:
- P.c. ansorgei:
- Escarpment of western Angola (Cuanza Norte to northern Huila)
- P.c. graueri:
- Nigeria to Gabon, Democratic Republic of the Congo and western Kenya
- P.c. kungwensis:
- Extreme western Tanzania (Mahale Mountains: Mount Nkungwe and Mount Mahale)

Forest understorey.
Behaviour
Diet
A wide variety of insects, which includes flies, beetles and caterpillars.
Vocalisation
A wheeo whistle, followed by a rapid chik chik.
