Identification
Distribution
Madagascar but now very rare: most often recorded in the west of the island with most recent reports from the north-west coast from near Nosy south to near Nosy Manitra off the south-west. Also recorded at more inland areas of the north-west and at Lake Alaotra. Possibly dispersive.
Vagrants recorded from Aldabra and the Comoros
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Shallow water, often preferring brackish or salty water; seen on mudflats and reefs.
