South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Subspecies
There are 7 subspecies[1]:
- G. r. spatiator:
- Santa Marta Mountains (north-eastern Colombia)
- G. r. saltuensis:
- Sierra de Perijá (Colombia/Venezuela border)
- G. r. rufula:
- Andes of Colombia to western Venezuela (Táchira) and Ecuador
- G. r. cajamarcae:
- Andes of northern Peru (Cajamarca)
- G. r. obscura:
- Andes of central Peru (Huánuco and Junín)
- G. r. occabambae:
- Andes of south-eastern Peru (Cusco)
- G. r. cochabambae:
- Andes of western Bolivia (La Paz and Cochabamba)
Habitat
Moist montane forests.
