- North-western New Guinea (Arfak Mountains)
- M. v. meeki:
- Western New Guinea (Weyland, Nassau, Orange and Hindenberg mountains)
- M. v. virago:
- Mountains of northern New Guinea, Central Highlands and Huon Peninsula
- M. v. maculiceps:
- Herzog Mountains and Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea
