Otus manadensis

Identification

Distribution

Sulawesi and adjacent islands in Indonesia.

Taxonomy

Up to five subspecies are recognized for this species: siaoensis from the Siau Islands, manadensis from Sulawesi, mendeni from Banggai Islands, sulaensis from Sula Islands, and kalidupae from Kalidupa Islands.

The subspecies sulaensis is sometimes considered a subspecies of Moluccan Scops Owl and sometimes considered a full species Sula Scops-Owl (Otus sulaensis) (Hartert, 1898). Subspecies siaoensis from the Siau Islands is sometimes considered another full species, Siau Scops Owl (Otus siaoensis).
