Genus: Pityriasis
Description
This genus contains only one species, the Bristlehead from Borneo.
A bulky passerine with a short tail, a massive bill and a featherless patch on top of its head.
Taxonomy
Pityriasis is a monotypic genus in the family Pityriaseidae.
The taxonomic placement of this genus is still not clear and study results contradict each other. Some studies show it to be most closely related to the Butcherbirds, the Australian Magpie and the Currawongs. Others placed it in a group of shrike-like birds together with the Vangas, Bushshrikes, Helmetshrikes and allies, Wattle-eyes and Ioras.
