Identification

Olive above, grey head, white lores, pale iris and a narrow eye-ring, dark wings with yellow edging and two yellow wing-bars, flat bill, black above and pale below, pale throat, olive breast, pale yellow belly.

Similar Species

Distinguished from the very similar Yellow-margined Flycatcher by the pale iris.

Distribution

From Oaxaca in Mexico through Central America and South America except Chile and most of Argentina.

Taxonomy

16 subspecies are recognized[1].

Habitat

Woodland and riversides.

Behaviour

It builds a hanging nest which can be conspicuous and consists of a retort-like nest chamber with a long entrance tube attached to the side.
