Important site for breeding Slavonian Grebe.
Birds
Notable Species
This is the main UK breeding site for Slavonian (Horned) Grebe, with up to 16 pairs breeding. Red-throated Diver and Black-throated Diver regularly visit the loch sometimes breed. Osprey are daily visitors during summer.
Black Grouse can often be seen in the paddock on the opposite side of the loch from the hide. Common Redstarts and Common Redpolls breed in the birchwoods. Reed Buntings and Sedge Warblers breed in the reedbed.
Rarities
Smew are occasional visitors in winter.
