Identification
Brown, white dashes on the back of its neck and darker brown wing patterns.
Similar Species
Distribution
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Taxonomy
Two subspecies are recognized, picazuro and marginalis. This species has previously been placed in genus Columba.
Habitat
Woodland and forest to agricultural land.
Behaviour
Diet includes seeds and grain; they are ground feeders.
They build a nest from sticks and one egg is laid. Both parents incubate the egg. Once the egg has hatched, the chick is fed on crop milk and then regurgitated seeds.
