Identification
23 cm. Black upperparts, white flecked winds, buff underparts, brown tail, 2 spotted white bars, black-edged buff facial disc, yellow iris.
Distribution
Peru, Colombia, northwest Paraguay and northern Argentina.
Taxonomy
There are 3 subspecies.
Habitat
Mountain forests.
Behaviour
It nests in a tree hole.
The diet includes rodents, small mammals, insects and birds.
