Identification
14cm. Male - olive-brown above, black tail, white dots on wing-coverts, grey head, sides of neck and underparts, black throat, breast and central belly, black iris. Female - similar with white throat and rufous belly.
Distribution
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.
Taxonomy
It has been split into 2 species:
- Myrmeciza atrothorax
- Myrmeciza stictothorax
Habitat
Dense undergrowth at the edges of forest and woodland especially near swamps or streams, below 500m.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects and arthropods.
Monogamous. 2 eggs are laid and are incubated by both parents who both care for the young.
