Identification
18.5-20 cm. Male - grey above and whitish below, black cap, white forehead, white band across the flight-feathers, black bill and feet. Female - cap is grey, black band between bill and eye, narrow white band above it.
Distribution
South-east Siberia, north-east China, Korea and Japan.
Taxonomy
It is split into 2 species;
- Pericrocotus divaricatus
- Pericrocotus tegimae found in the Ryūkyū Islands of southern Japan.
Habitat
Forest and more open areas with scattered trees.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects.
4-7 eggs are laid and incubated for 17 to 18 days.
Vocalisation
The call is a high-pitched, metallic trill.
