Zeiss Fakes & Serial Numbers (1 Viewer)

Hi, I came across a beautiful pair of Zeiss 8x50 B binoculars but the serial number only has six digits, it says "Carl Zeiss" and "8x 50 B" on the left top side and has the 6 digit serial number and "Made in Germany" on the focusing wheel. Are these fakes?

Hi,

a pair of 8x50B was made by Zeiss West from Oberkochen and thus the handy Carl Zeiss Jena serial number list does not help. Zeiss West serial numbers were assigned per model and while they still have records and will answer when asked nicely, there is no public database of those.

The OP posted photos last night from the auction site, which have since been deleted. They showed an 8x50B Oberkochen. Both the binocular and case looked perfectly genuine. I don’t think there ever were fakes of the West German Porros and 6 digit serial numbers are correct for those.

The Zeiss West (Oberkochen) 8x50B porro's always have 6 digit serial numbers, no exceptions.

You all are so awesome, thank you so much for helping me!!! Because of your assistance, I am going to try very hard to get them. What is it about binoculars that's so addictive? I have been reading posts here and learning so much from all of you and I am so grateful! Every time I post a question, some kind souls always answer. I'll post pictures as soon as I can and will write up my comparisons with several other binoculars.

No big reason other than I stumbled across them for sale, they're Zeiss Oberkochen, and they offer a little more aperture than my 8x30 W Zeiss aus Jena binoculars.
