Canada Goose at last! #5491 (at the mo).

Finally got round to twitching a presumed vagrant (non-introduced) bird in Lancashire. My first lifer for more than a year, and in all likelihood the only new bird I'll get this year.

An armchair tick in the form of White-throated Xenops from yesterday's split of Plain Xenops.

However, that was offset by the lump of Southern Mountain Cacique with Northern Mountain Cacique.

Canada Goose at last! #5491 (at the mo).

There can't be that many birders who didn't log a non-introduced Canada Goose that late in their birding career!

It's been on my list 3 times now 😁. Once back in the late 70's.... until it came off when I got into "world birding" ... to go back on again in the mid 90's when I saw some "across the pond"... Only to come off again a few years later when those ones became Cackling Geese..... And now it's on again! 🥳

Got a pair of crossbills while tagging along on a Welsh fishing trip. Also had lots of dippers and a nuthatch, both bird of which I haven’t seen in years.

Also had great looks at a great crested newt at rainham, after my dad pointed it out. Not a bird but it’s still the first time I’ve ever seen a newt. Carried on rising and swimming close to the surface for around 30 minutes- which allowed me to ID it properly.

Saw a pair of killdeer for the first time yesterday

Saw a pair of ring ouzels only 5 miles from my area, also went for a short visit to KGV reservoir where the red necked grebe showed well. Which was pleasant as I had only managed to get distant views of my lifer RNG in staines last year. Only been twice and have managed great views of a male scaup, wheatears and a distant view of mid slav grebe, as well as great views of sand martins.
