Yellow Rumped Warbler, Southern California (1 Viewer)

Are these both Yellow Rumped Warblers? If so, there sure seem to be quite a large variation within that species.

Nice images. I take it that you mean variation within the species as such.
Your birds are of the 'Audubon´s Warbler' (auduboni group, western) , since they both have restricted throat patches lacking the pale line which runs along the lower border of the auriculars seen in the 'Myrtle Warbler' (coronata group eastern).

In the first image probably a fall male - bright yellow crown, breast side and throat patch together with rather broad dark markings on the flanks. The second looks like a formative (first fall) female - less obvious marked.

As you probably know the male in coronata group has a white throat - yellow in auduboni group.
