Whooping Cranes TX (1 Viewer)

Can anyone make a recommendation for a one day trip in the Aransas / Rockport area for seeing Whooping Cranes early December? I'm considering a boat tour, but I'm wondering if driving the area (with eBird sightings in mind) is a good option. I've never been to the area so any assistance is appreciated

I've not done a boat but I expect they're good. Although you should definitely see them at Aransas, my experience is that views there tend to be distant. I've had much better views around Goose Island, which is easy to do independently by car.

I went on a boat tour and saw 30, quite close to the Intracoastal Canal.
Views in Aransas NWR were distant. I didn't know about Goose Island!

I went to Goose Island / the Big Tree area near Lamar and saw several both far and close, including a pair at someones backyard. It helped to check Ebird and ask locals like the Goose Island State Park staff at the entrance.
