Where to find Crested Tits (1 Viewer)

We will going to Skye and The Uists in May. We will be travelling up from Devon Stoping on the way and would like to know where we might see Crested Tits, and to take photos of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sue

Speyside is the obvious place. I've always found the road from Aviemore to Cairngorm very reliable. You can park in the layby just as you arrive at Loch Morlich, cross the river via the bridge and follow the lakeside paths. You shouldn't need to go very far before seeing/hearing some. It would be very worthwhile to learn their calls which will make finding them much easier. Also, any of the open roadside forrested clearings before you reach the loch are equally good, if not better from my experience. Just stop the car and have a listen at regular intervals.

Another place that's worth a look is RSPB Loch Garten, especially around the carpark and the short walk to the Osprey centre.

Good luck,

Steve

Crested tit calls can be downloaded from here. Just right click on the species name and choose 'save target as':
