What about Nikon 16x50 Action? (2 Viewers)

... So I disagree strongly with the discussion about lower powers. You simply get much more information through the glass at 12x. ...

Well, maybe it's not always the amount of close up detail that is the most important to everyone. Could a beautiful, relaxed "whole picture"-view be something someone would want?

Hi Tom

I have a pair of 12X42 H20's that I get along with fairly well. Do you know how big of a step up optically the 12X50 legend would be over the H2O ?

Thanks Bruce

I had a pair of the 10x50 Action EX's and replaced them about 4 months ago with a pair of Bushnell Legend 12x50's. I really don't notice any more handshake with the 12x50 Legends and use them quite a bit for that extra punch and reach. Since they weigh 8oz less than my old 10x50's they are actually easier for me to hold, particularly for any extended viewing time, but I did have to give up about 50ft of FOV which I really didn't notice that much. The 12x50 Legends show a lot less glare than the 10x50 Action EX's which was a reason I was looking to replace the Nikons in the first place.

I am quite happy with the 12x50 Legends. At 28oz. 290 ft FOV, waterproof, and lifetime warranty, they are hard to beat.

Sounds a bit off topic. Maybe post this on the Bushnell.

Hi Jerry

The 12X50 legend is the topic of the post I quoted. If the guestion needs to go to the Bushnell section I can move it there.

I don't see much else in any other post in this thread about the 16X50 Action. The original post even asks about several other brands. Read the post I quoted, it was about the 12X50 Legend. It's not like I'm hijacking a current thread that hadn't already been taken in several different directions anyway. You need to go back and chastise the other posters who went off topic, not just me. If you are a moderator then delete the post. If not, then have a moderator delete it.

The "original" post here is the Nikon 16x50 Action, go back and see. ;)
Have you anything to share about the Nikon?

I've never used any of the H2O's, but the Legends were Bushnell's premium porros for many years until being discontinued a couple of years ago. Unlike the H2o's, the Legends are fully muticoated, have the Rainguard lens coating, and have twist up eyecups. I also have the 8x42 model which I have always felt was one of the best of the 8x42's around. Focus knobs are a little stiff as are most waterproof porros, but the brightness, resolution and contrast are simply outstanding for porros at the price point.

I suspect Bushnell dropped them due to the high manufacturing costs, and at the price point they were forced to sell them at, were probably slow movers due to the plethora of cheaper roofs.

I had the 12x50 action fieldmaster. It was useful for looking at the small islands in the bay and for peering at hawks/ducks/woodpeckers across a large swamp in the local park.

Aside from narrow FOV and a a bit of a yellowish cast it was surprisingly good especially considering the low cost.

No experience with 16x

I found some of the 12X50 at Adorama for $115. I don't know if they will get any cheaper or not, but I'm afraid that if I wait I might miss out as there doesn't seem to be very many left. I'm glad I happened to see you post or I would have never known there was a superior quality 12X option out there for a reasonable price.

Thanks Bruce
