Very busy at the bird feeder today! (25 Viewers)

I had a Harris’s Sparrow in my yard today! I’ve never seen one before so lifer for me. And I’m new to birding and mostly just do the FeederWatch. Started last year. I knew it was different than the 30-60 house sparrows I see everyday. He was a chunky boy among the house sparrows and had a distinctive light bill and black and white bib with black cap and black face. Definitely showing off his breeding colors. I thumbed through Sibley’s until I found him. He’s been hanging around all morning!

There’s also something else new…but I can’t figure it out. Very dainty and small, like a junco, but finely streaked and with striping on his head, similar to a juvenile white-crowned sparrow, but he was much smaller. Drab gray and brown. Darkish bill. Not the greatest description, but any ideas? Oh… he was foraging on the ground in the leaf litter and then under the feeder. I’m in Oklahoma City.

Bird activity has increased this last week which is good, have had Goldfinches back too. It’s been a pretty quiet winter for the birds in the garden it seems. I have a different looking Wood Pigeon in the garden this week, I’ve come to the conclusion it is a juvenile, but seems a little early? Definitely not a Stock Dove as currently have a pair too and they are quite different.

Birds obviously know what they like . I had got birds regular seeds as they were on offer but they never touched it at all . My parents got me sunflower hearts so I emptied the regular seeds to the sunflower hearts on the feeder and now I’ve seen birds going to the feeders for the first time in ages.

Sunflower hearts are always a favourite!

Had Goldfinches at the feeder for the first time in what feels like years this morning and 5 mins ago I saw more at the feeder.
