Very busy at the bird feeder today! (7 Viewers)

Lots of young in our yards at present: Northern Mockingbird, Carolina Wren, House Finch, House Sparrow and even White-winged Dove.

We still have as many White-winged Doves as ever but we're now seeing a return of Mourning Doves (up to three at a time) after a couple of years when I thought the White-wingeds had dtiven them away.

Another new yardbird this week: Snowy Egret. That's three new ones in a week.

At college we've been swamped with migrant warblers, like Magnolias (photo). Also, a pair of Killdeer has four eggs in a nest and anyone who approaches it is treated to a broken-wing display (photo).

The stuff of dreams over here Jeff!!

got up very late this morning ....11.15am :eek!:

Thank god I did. I came down to find a Female Sparrowhawk eating its kill in the garden !

Grabbed the camera and blasted off a few shots through the kitchen window balanced on one leg trying to keep one of my cats going out the cat flap with the other foot...:-O

managed to get 20 seconds of video and 3-4 good captures . looks like one of our noisy new Starlings .http://www.flickr.com/photos/57957957@N08/7235660122/

Great capture! Unfortunately, I had a successful Female Sparrowhawk in my garden yesterday, I say unfortunate because it killed one of the few greenfinch that visit.

thats a real shame . They seem so scarce now. We currently have the odd one or two (hopefully a pair) but last year I found two dead next to each other where they had flown into an open window that is normally kept closed. Such a shame

great accompanying insight to your kitchen activities eb ...lol
Smart bird :t:

Definitely gonna have to google or buy a European birding book, magpies, great tits, coal tits, wood pigeon??? Lol. My jays call out upon approach, anticipating peanuts brought out as welcome presents.

Did own 2 hummingbird feeders in addition to nyger, box, table, and suet feeders. Fellow below showed up and emphatically claimed nectar feeders, apparently leaving me with just caregiver status.
Believe his name is "Pugsley D. Mann"

Still have up to 5 Red-winged blackbirds visiting tablefeeder in mornings. White-breasted nuthatches very active grabbing slivers of walnuts, could be feeding family. Downy woodpeckers finished with courting, have established a den. Pair of Amer. redstarts might require mealworms, still debating that. Visited daily by usual crew of Amer. Goldfinch, Tit-mice, BC-chickadees, House finches, Cardinals, Bluejays, Mourning doves, Chipping sparrows, Eurasian tree sparrows. Robins as always, attend to yard, will on occasion grab a raisin.

Pic is Pugs as I tried to clean and re-fill former property Tues. evening.
Promised Pugs to perform duties after sunset in future.

just seen my first bird for a week, it was a dunnock. only other things i've seen in the last 7 days was a flock of pigeons through the hospital window. the dunnock really cheered me up

sorry to hear that you are in hospital CC .

I was going to suggest you put some food on the window sill but on second thoughts you wouldn't want to poison the local bird population with hospital food ;)

You could always download Birdsuk to your cellfone and practice identifying uncommon bird song :-O
