Hi!
I'm new to the site and new to birdwatching as well! Please excuse me if I post some 'easy' ID questions but IDs are not easy for me at this stage! But I'll learn!! Anyway, what is this bird... I was thinking some sort of Warbler but it really doesn't match up to the ones in my field guide. I took the photo in Paris, Virginia (northern Va.) out in a cow pasture. Thanks in advance for your patience!

This certainly is a warbler... look in your guide for the combination of that reddish-brown cap, yellow eyebrow stripe, and yellow undertail coverts.

I recently added this bird to my yard list and let me tell you, mine was much drabber in coloring. I would have loved to have seen it at this stage.

Thank you!!

Thank you all for showing me the way!!
That warbler site will be of great help in the future!!

I'll have to go with the Palm Warbler. That's still just a guess but with all the clues you gave that has to be it!

Thank you for teaching me what to look for, that really helps a lot!

I think there are least two subspecies of Palm Warbler. Only one of the subspecies has that bright yellow and rufous look. So maybe it wasn't that you saw your PW at the wrong stage - you might have been looking at the Western (paler, drabber) subspecies.

Your bird has rather yellow underparts and quite a chestnut coloured crown, like this one >HERE< That should narrow it down

Just don't peek at the URL in the browser :D
