US bird song books (1 Viewer)

I am reading the Don Stap book Birdsong. It is quite good and has an overview of the field from its UK beginnings. I noticed that Don Kroodsma has book out himself. It is more technical and has a CD. Not that expensive.

My first book was Lang Elliott's Music of the Birds. It has pretty pictures and a 76 track CD. The thing that bothered me about that was the heavy emphasis on human enjoyment of bird song. It is relaxing and we all have some feeligs for birds I guess. But I don't need a book about it, with poems and all.

Kenn Kaufman has poem about the fierce Chickadee! :eek!: ;)

You can list other US books here. And reviews.

On one of the UK bargain remainder book sites (www.psbooks.co.uk) they have a US book called Bird Sounds - how and why birds sing call chatter and screech - by Barry Kent Mackay. Ever come across it? Not an id guide obviously

Have not seen. Looks OK for half price. Of course, the examples may not be familiar to you. I only use sound to ID on home turf. Traveling, I use visuals, field guides.
