Unkown bird call, UK, any pointers? (1 Viewer)

Hi all, sorry for the vague post.
I have been hearing an unkown bird call/song for the past week, on my local patch. I'm usualy pretty good with bird calls but this has me stumped. A few of the other local birders are puzzled also.

Call = telephone ring, the old 'brrng brrng' 'phones. Just those two syllables.

The call comes from medium height scrub. most of the common finches and tit species are in the vicinity and the only 'odd one out' amongst them is Brambling, and this call isn't Brambling.

Any ideas or pointers, then I can check out on 'xeno-canto' and compare.
I have ruled out the obvious mimic artists, ie starling songthrush.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out something as simple as a Robin too lazy to finish his song.

Thanks in adavance, Joe

Bloody hell! What a quick solution to my puzzle! Good old Bird Forum, and thankee kindly for the pointer Twibble! Just listened to a selection of waxwing calls via the xeno-canto bird song site and bingo! Definitely a Waxwing.
Dunno why it never clicked with me when I heard it. There are a few waxwings lingering around at another spot a few hundred yards dow the road.
Once again, Thanks Twibble for pointing me in the right direction

Marvellous , I flog around my locality in Jan and Feb following sightings and don't see a hint of a Waxwing.
Other people find them doing telephone impersonations in late March.
Where's the justice ?

LMAO Snake! I had no idea that Waxwings made telephone calls until Twibble replied to this thread. After a ton of googling and listening to a whole load of waxwing recordings I found one making exactly the same call.
Waxwing! Phone home!
