Tayrona NP and Flamingo Sanctuary (1 Viewer)

Looking for some information please....
1. Two of us have booked accommodation at Quetzal El Dorado eco hotel, 5 minutes drive to entry gate at Tayrona. We are looking at hiring a bird guide and vehicle for the whole day to bird both inside and outside of the park, understanding that it is walking only inside the park. Have been discussing this with a guiding company but having trouble pinning them down on the detail/breakup of costs. Any thoughts please,

2. We then travel to Boca de Camarones by taxi to stay at El Remenso del Santuario hotel to access the Flamingo Sanctuary. I understand a local guide is required but not sure where the actual access point is for guiding services and also whether a vehicle is required within the park or is it all on foot. Beginning to think our accommodation may be in the wrong position? Again, any advice welcome please.

1. You can drive inside the park but it is not a great place to go birding. It gets very busy and birds are elusive. Las Gaviotas road c20km east of the park is better.

2. Most birding is accessed from Camarones village. There are several guides that operate in the area and they can arrange transport. Check out Birding Tayrona on Facebook for example.

1. For Tayrona look at hiring Breiner Tarazona Breiner Tarazona - Orniverse . He is excellent and can arrange whatever you need and accommodate various budgets. As simmojunior mentions there are parts of the park that are better than others so having a knowledgeable guide is important.

2. There are a few different areas to bird but like mentioned above, most is based out of Camarones village (so your hotel is well placed!). Jhonis of Birding Guajira Jhonis Alarza Berrio and Jose Luis Pushaina Pushaina Birder Guide are the two main local guides and they can both help you arrange transport as/if needed

Good information, thankyou

In Camarones, we stayed at the same place and I used Tocuyo Birding for guiding, he was excellent. I had a vehicle, (SUV car) so he did not have to arrange that. He had only little English, and my Spanish is poor, but we made it work.

Thanks. We ended up getting Minca Birding to arrange guide, transportation, etc. When taking account car rentals with comprehensive coverage, the cost was little different. This was after trying to nail down a price and details with indigenous guiding group which was frustrating.
