Swarovski scopes and Manfrotto tripod heads (2 Viewers)

Is it correct that Swarovski scopes are compatible with (some) Manfrotto tripod heads without the need for a plate to sit inbetween them? I have an ATS65 scope and a Manfrotto 700RC2 head, which requires a plate and it's a right pain in the proverbial. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Why is this a pain? If it is a problem switching the tripod between two usages, get another plate.

I think that the fewer interfaces one has between tripod feet and scope, the better.
The Manfrotto QR plates have a rubber surface, which is going to permit some vibration.
The QR plate (and presumably Swarovski scope) fits transversly in the Swarovski FH101 head and in the Manfrotto 128RC2.
On the Manfrotto 700RC2 the plate fits longitudinally so direct mounting of the scope would prevent tilting.

HELP! can you tell me if there are any lightweight heads that will fit the swaro scope without the plate, I understand the benefit of this. I have been looking at the new RSPB tripod "LEGS", and not sure if the head they do with it (gitzo 2180) will do the job with my beloved swaro 65.

You could try Swarovski's own head, but from reports I've heard it's very much a love it or hate it affair:

Thanks for the advice. I am a total newbie to "decent" tripods, so I'll check out the swaro head as it is lightweight. As you say, seems I'll either love it or hate it according to reviews on here!
