Spotted this in Swanley kent over Asda car park. (1 Viewer)

Hi hbloc and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Kites sure seem to be closing in on London again..... a long last eh?

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thanks for all the kind welcoming message, what a friendly bunch!!! Since posting I’ve spotted a red kite just off the M20 turn off and on my way home tonight over Dennis’s of Bexley. (won’t mean much unless you’re familiar with the Swanley area) but so pleased to see this bird of prey so local. When I was a young bird spotter Kestrel would be a treat, now I’m happy to say sparrow hawk and buzzards are……. Well as common as sparrows which ironically were on the decline during this period. Many thanks again for your warmth.

I'm a bit deeper down in Kent but similar experiences. As a teenage birdwatcher in the mid 80's a Kestrel, or an occasional Spaowhawk was it for a BoP sighting. Moving to mid-Wales for a few years I was stunned by regular Buzzard and Red Kite sitings, but now in Kent I probably see as many Buzzards and Kites as Kestrels.

Buzzards are very common now in this area, we have a scaffolding yard in Crockenhill, I’m pretty sure they nest in the woods on the grounds, I see them on a daily basis. (Always excited to see them tho) I remember visiting the Brecon Beacons 20 odd years ago and being amazed at the buzzards
