Each year, I witness Red Kites flying past my house in Dartford. In March, they are adult birds and later in Spring 2cy birds fly over.
So far this March, six birds have flown past including three today. Every single one of them every year are heading NW with metronomic purpose and they all follow the same line.
My belief is that these are 'Swedish stock' migrants heading N to breed rather than 'German stock' birds from the Chilterns etc
Data shows that the Chilterns birds don't really travel that far. But the birds I'm seeing aren't observed 'flying in-off' the sea in E Kent either.
Does anyone have any data regarding ringing/wing-tag recoveries that show where these birds are coming from and where they are going to?
Cheers, Andy.
