Happy New Year Folks,

Need help on this little guy I saw sitting out at the feeders this morning. Is he just another song sparrow?

Thanks,
Matt

Nope, American Tree Sparrow; common winter visitor from far north. Note the chest spot, bicolored bill and rufous cap.

I thought there was something different about this one. Thanks for your help birdingcraft, first new lifer of the new year for me! :t:

Agree with A. Tree Sparrow - they are one of my favourite winter birds, and have such sweet-sounding voices when they "chatter"!

Congrats on the lifer!

I hear you on the voices. Really cool birds to have at a feeder! Although I am happy to now live in the tropics and I don't northern winters, I do miss Tree Sparrows.

I have a new friend from work that has pictures from a visit to Costa Rica. I would love to get down there.
