Snowy Owl taken by red fox (1 Viewer)

Saw 2 coopers hawks, a merlin and unfortunately a red fox dining on a snowy owl. Snowy owls spend a lot of time on the ground and foxes are stealthy hunters. Ottawa, Canada.

So sad. Nature can be raw at times but it's nature nonetheless.

Survival. Larger owls also prey on smaller owls. There is a famous location here in eastern Ontario where barred owls have feasted on both long-eared owls and saw-whets.

Did you see it Kill it? The Owl looks a bit rank to me maybe scavenged rather than killed ,would be a brave fox that would take on a large fierce owl, although I suppose could take it by surprise?

Yes it's by the side of a road so perhaps roadkill?
