Read post #19. I am not nitpicking on the SLC's. I have had a lot of them and I have had more issues with focusers with them than any other binocular I have had, even MIC binoculars.NDHunter is right........ignore the guy and you'll be way better off. I've got a 8x42 and 10x42 SLC and both are superb. A guy can nitpick this stuff to death and never be satisfied.
If there is a troll on Bird Forum, it is you! The thing is, you're a troll that doesn't contribute anything useful or meaningful half the time.Don't feed the troll, put him on ignore. He has pulling this stuff for years now, should be banned.
That is really none of your business why I buy and sell binoculars, and it is definitely off the topic of the thread.
I agree that it's none of my business, but I am curious how you manage to do so many comparisons. Buying and selling that many would cost you a lot of money, buying and returning that many would cost someone else a lot of money. That is really none of your business why I buy and sell binoculars, and it is definitely off the topic of the thread.
I do the same. For me, it is fun trying different binoculars.Dennis...I frequently go thru binoculars or cameras (optics) and enjoy the knowledge I gain from this experience. I turn them around and re-sell to purchase something else. Sometimes I will order in a used pair of optics from B and H and experiment with the unit and return it. I never play with new gear like that but used gear, I have no issue with. But the gaining of knowledge as I compare optics is fun...a hobby in itself
It doesn't really cost a lot because usually I buy used binoculars or new ones that are discounted heavily and when I resell them the hit is not too bad. I enjoy trying different binoculars, and some of them I have tried many times. Why then have Swaro stopped making them?I really think the SLC is an alpha level binocular and a good step up from the SFL. It has advantages even over the EL and NL, and glare control is a big one.
The SLC is much glare more resistant and brighter than either the EL or NL, and it does not have as much RB because it is not as flat field as either one.
Will you correct them if we don't like what you said?Sometimes I correct them if I don't like what I said.
Boy, is he going to be busy!!Will you correct them if we don't like what you said?
Still in production now labelled Helia-S under their sister company Kahles, but still made by Swarovski. Why then have Swaro stopped making them?
Let's be clear, there are two possible focuser issues here, "smooth" and "equal".Well I called the seller and asked about the focuser - he said it was perfectly smooth and equal forwards to back.
That is similar to the problems I had with the SLC 8x42. I doubt if Swarovski would make it better because I sent mine in to Swarovski for repair, and it came back worse.I had an SLC 8x42 manufactured in 2014, the focus button made a terrible noise, and it went smoother in one direction and harder in the other. Now I have a Helia S 8x42, fabulous optics at least on the level of the Noctivid 8x42 that I had. Unfortunately, the focus wheel behaves the same as in the SLC from 2014, it makes noise and goes smoother in one direction than in the other. I don't send it to the factory because I don't think they will make it better.
The SLC 10x42 is an alpha binocular, and some birders prefer it over an EL. If you got a good focuser you are good to go.I got back last night having been away for a few days and box was waiting for me. Everything is pristine inside and outside the orignal box. Binos are absolutely mint, focus wheel is as he said smooth and equal both ways. Haven’t had a chance for a full eval but looking over the hills pre sunrise the image looks superb
It certainly has a stunning image. They’re much easier to hold steady than I expected, and smaller/lighter than I thought they would be too. I can’t comment on whether I prefer them over an EL - out of my price range so never looked. The SLC 8x42 is an alpha binocular, and some birders prefer it over an EL.
