RSPB website, completely revamped (1 Viewer)

What do others members of this forum think of the new look RSPB website, which has been completely revamped and there are going to be other changes as well on the website leading up to the end of 2015. I quite like the look of the new look RSPB website, as it look's more modern and quite stylish. The only thing because of the Cyber Spam attack on the RSPB Community Forums a few days ago, there's still no access to the RSPB Forums. The RSPB said it would be at least 72 hours, if not more before anyone would be able to post in the RSPB Community Forum.

It is that "modern" look, websites are like clothing some nebulous style setting system suddenly decides what is in and then overnight every throws out their skinny jeans and wears flares; (or six months later if you live in Kendal!).

It is mainly driven by the rise of the tablet, the crossover has happened, more website views happen on tablets/phones than on proper computers. This means everyone now optimises their site for a small screen and flick scrolling, it does mean that if you have a 24" monitor everything looks overly vast and you get mouse wheel RSI.

Such is life.

Is it really that difficult for websites to be designed in alternative style layouts for desktop and phone/tablet users? The new RSPB site really does look ridiculous when the screen is about 80% white space wither side and a thin column of text down the centre.

Slightly off topic. Websites are only as good as their content. I'm planning to visit 2 local(ish) RSPB reserves tomorrow. Check the website for recent sightings I thought. 1 hasn't been updated with sightings since 2013, the other since 15 March and this is a major reserve. Maybe I am alone at thinking to check recent sightings when planning visit! Away from RSPB the similar applies to a WWT site which hasn't been updated since 27 March. Am I wrong in expecting

I know of one of the reserve blogs on the RSPB Forums, which hasn't been updated for about 2-3 years now. When I asked the reason they gave on that reserve blog, the reason the deputy warden gave, was that they where now spending all the time posting on Facebook. Other reserve blogs aren't too bad. I was very disappointed by that, as its my nearest RSPB reserve.

Ian, thanks so I checked FaceBook and guess what. They don't have any later news! If the information isnt going to be maintained it should be removed then no problem. Back to the original question re new website personally I do not like it at all.
