RSPB Middleton Lakes (1 Viewer)

13/6/13 DBP New scrapes Jubilee wetlands Sum Plum Grey Plover AGW, note Jubilee wetlands is contained within the Vice County and Modern County of Staffordshire. Birdguides has logged the site as RSPB Middleton Lakes as Warwickshire and thus incorrect County information will continue to be put out by Birdguides.

Interesting John - good to see it is Staffs tho, that's the main thing! :t:

Birdguides are usually pretty good - if you email them F.A.O. Josh Jones he should sort it out. RBA reported it as Warwicks/Staffs today so they are hedging their bets...

Hi Moorhen,
The problem I can forsee is any birders visiting the Reserve who do not know the County boundaries (that includes regulars), would not know which County the bird was in, if Birdguides have RSPB Middleton Lakes Staffordshire and RSPB Middleton lakes Warwickshire, incorrect information will still go out as the correct County has not been identified. That's why I started a thread on the Staffs forum and the Warwickshire forum.
Stick with the Staffordshire thread and you will be O.K, although some forum uses wanted just one thread on the West Midlands conurbation County of which RSPB Middleton lakes is not in this boundary.

14/6/13 DBP North pit this morning 3 Black-tailed Godwit at 12:25 7 Ringed Plover got up off the north pit headed west then returned. Chris Cook saw 6 Ringed Plover on the North pit 7 p.m yesterday evening. There was also a male Pochard on the North pit, 1 large Oystercatcher young, Redshank, a Lapwing with 4 small young they must have nested late on the spit, but are still very vulnerable if flooding occurs they will have no-where to hide.
Jubilee Wetlands 2 Ringed Plover and an LRP, so Total 9 Ringed Plover today.

Yeh it's always a tricky one when a county boundary crosses a good birding site - I remember being stood next to Steve Haynes when the Glossy Ibis was on Fishers Mill and confirming with him it was defo in Staffs! Maybe the RSPB could build a nice fence to separate the two...;)

What I suggested was it was worth putting all the information for the reserve in one place and then flag rarities in each individual county as and when they occur (and that if it was combined that it shouldnt rest on the West Mids threads at all the very reason you stated above).

Not everyone is interested in rarities, other natural History like Dingy Skipper, people like to note which County it is in. People should be greatful that some people put sightings out using their own spare time and not hopping from one thread to another with duplicate questioning. Putting data out like a computer but on analysis much information I have found in this fast output data is incorrect, put less out and make it more accurrate.

Which is exactly why it would be worthwhile putting all the information for the reserve in one place on BF - birds, plants, insects, management work etc - for consistency of output and then flag rarities in each county when they occur; then the news services would have a far better feel as to what is in what county. People only hop from one thread to another as there are three to start off with!

PS I for one am grateful for the news coming out of Middleton, I just (personally) feel it could be presented in a more user-friendly manner.

I put Staffordshire sightings on the Staffordshire thread if you want to put Upton Warren sightings Worcestershire on a Norfolk thread be prepared for a big backlash from those Norfolk boys.

Once it's out on a Bird information lines it is out to everyone, you constantly combe Birdforum for sightings for your site particulary from Geoff and myself.
Birdguides take information from your site regulary and there are no credits, Birdguides, Rare Bird Alert and others use each others information. If you don't want people using your information it's simple don't put the information out.
