Robin hit window (1 Viewer)

A quick hello to everyone from a new Canadian member! :) My husband, sweetheart that he is, found this website for me after an incident this morning.

I was eating breakfast and heard a very loud bang behind me, and after a moment, noticed a robin on the deck, on it's back, taking it's last breaths. Poor thing hit the patio window and broke it's neck, and I'm quite upset about it; it's been bothering me all morning.

Realizing it is quite common for birds to get confused in the reflection from windows, I'm putting it in perspective. However, when it happened, the first thing that popped into my head is that this is a bad omen.

Has anyone heard anything about finding a dead robin being a bad omen? Silly superstition, I know, but I'm thinking I have heard this from somewhere before.

Thanks!

I think you can relax. I really don't think the universe cares about a Robin hitting your window.

Mike

Hello Rowan and welcome to Bird Forum from all the Moderators and Admin. Staff
Generally speaking we are all a very friendly bunch and there's always someone who will be able to answer any of your queries.
I'm afraid that's not me on this occasion, sorry.

Hi Rowan - sorry to hear about the robin. I can well understand how you are feeling. We've not had a robin hitting a window, but we found one dead in a bucket that we had left out, and it had gradually filled up with rainwater - now if I leave anything like that outside, I always make sure it is upside down.

We've had a few window strikes over the years, some of which were just stunned - but this year has been a bad one so far. By putting up two niger feeders, we attracted as many as seventy two siskins into the garden. The feeders were quite far away from the windows, but we had three strikes, two of which died. I kept careful watch over the third - we don't often get cats in the garden, but they do stroll in occasionally - and after about half an hour it flew off. I blamed myself though, for attracting them into the garden. I'm sure this is not a bad omen, so please don't worry about that.

By the way - welcome to the forum!

nice... everyone on here as friendly as you?

Sorry!! I didn't mean to be so short and unsympathetic. I'm having a bad day and was in a hurry. I'm sorry about the Robin, but I have a thing with superstition that sets me off sometimes. Again I apologize...

Thanks for clarifying and for the apology - hubby thought I was being oversensitive, too. Just felt badly for the little thing; it was a more gruesome discovery than I indicated in my initial post.

Hope the rest of your day goes better!
