OK guys, I love my camera and the birds too. I have spotted these two and they look like red sparrows to me. What do you think?

Thanks,

Eldon

From left to right in the first photo you have a male house finch, a male purple finch, a white-crowned sparrow, and a slate-coloured junco.

On second thought, I'm not sure that the first one isn't a purple finch too. I thought it looked to brown and streaky on the flanks, but it's hard to tell at that distance and angle.

I'm with Cavan Wood's first instinct. I think the leftmost bird is too brown to be a purple. I think it's a house finch.

I think Cavan's second guess on the Purple Finch is right in pic 1. Has more of a Purple feel to me than House Finch. Certainly wouldn't bet my house on it but it looks bull-headed and the streaking doesn't look distinct enough for House Finch.

Just for the record, the name is Scott. Cavan is the village where I live. Still not certain on that first bird.

Hahaha 8-P

I'm feeling Purple on all those male Carpodacus finches. I think the angle and the light give the leftmost bird in photo1 a misleadingly brown wing. Just my two cents.

Great birds, Eldon! :t:
