Red Kite: increase in central and north Norfolk sightings (1 Viewer)

Red Kite sightings in central and north Norfolk have been increasing rapidly. From 20 to 30 June, I've had ten sightings from just north of Swaffham to around where I live, probably involving eight or more individuals altogether. One sighting was of 3 birds, another of 2, the rest of singletons. Feather wear and moult differences help estimate the number of individual birds. Yesterday, one glided overhead just 10 metres above me. Today I took my camera and got this shot of probably the same bird as yesterday, only this time, it was over my house!

To think that but a short time ago both Red Kite and Common Buzzard were absent from this part of the world...

Many Red Kites seen in Kent recently too with the biggest count being of 33 just south of Canterbury (not by me - I'm one of the few in the county that hasn't seen one this year yet)

Great when you see birds like that from home, isn't it? I've seen both Buzzard and Red Kite from looking out of my window in south London (Lambeth) in the last few weeks. Couldn't get the camera in time for the Buzzard, but managed some Kite record shots (underexposed so needed a lot of processing to get any hint of colour). Eg: https://www.flickr.com/photos/132060890@N08/18581197160/in/dateposted-public/.

And to think I had to go to Tregaron to see my first in 1985. It was an extra special experience back then of course. A wonderful place and wonderful birds.

I've been looking out of the window today (camera to the ready) in case Booted Eagle passes by....;)

went to Wallingford and Chinnor to take some railway photographs....ended up with more of red kites. everywhere

Even a visit to the yard (under supervision) at Chinnor to see the unit formerly used on the Lymington branch...a red kite flies over about 20' from the ground

for some reason cannot upload 190kb JPEG file

I've seen 2 together over my little bit of land on the Essex suffolk boarder on more than one occasion which isn't bad considering
